Signposts goes much further by providing advice to policy makers, schools (including teachers, senior managers and governors) and teacher trainers on tackling issues arising from the recommendation.

EDUCATION

The next revolution in education will couple far more advanced computational technologies with far deeper knowledge about human cognition, including dramatically more effective constructivist and active instructional strategies. The impact of such a revolution will encompass not only new modes of learning and pedagogy, but new organizational systems for education. In particular, advances in computing research stand to achieve open access of global educational resources and the reuse, repurposing, and sharing of such resources.

Technologies such as user models, mobile tools, networking tools, serious games, intelligent environments, educational data mining, and rich interfaces—collectively—will help us personalize education, assess student learning, support social learning, diminish boundaries, develop alternative teaching strategies, enhance the role of many different stakeholders, and address policy changes.

Education

PACT believes strong schools are a key to a fruitful future for our communities. We work with administrators, teachers and parents to improve the quality of education for students and to increase parent involvement at local schools. Our approach is to train parents to become advocates for the education of their children.
We have a long history of working on local and state education issues.  In the past, PACT has helped congregations set up tutoring and support programs to help students in the learning process and to better link families to schools.
Delta Community College:  PACT is working with the San Joaquin Immigrant Youth Collective to create increased opportunities for all youth to attain the post high school education that opens doors.  We are especially targeting those who face the greatest challenges including undocumented students, students who because of poverty or other social issues are not able to move seamlessly from high school through higher education. Student leaders have been meeting with Delta Administration to improve services to these students.

OUR BELIEFS

Right now, across the nation, it’s a fact that the current education system is failing. This is not fresh news. One in nine children leave high school with a 5th grade academic performance level. Educators realize there is a problem, yet despite the grave consequences of these low levels of academic performance, the predicament persists and grows. We all know that it is easy to absolve ourselves and point a finger, and over decades, in every state and every school there have been many people who started out with good intentions that were eventually singled out to take the blame.

Higher Education Legal Insights

Though directed at K-12 schools, the guidance—particularly the model contract terms—can be readily translated to the college and university setting. The model contract terms address issues including data collection, use, redisclosure and destruction; the Department provides explanations for the recommended terms. The guidance also acknowledges that such terms may not be required by FERPA or other privacy laws, but indicates institutions should consider them as best practices.
In suggesting these model terms, the guidance calls on schools to consider the privacy challenges posed by “click wrap” terms of service agreements—contracts that get created when a user (usually thoughtlessly) clicks on an “I accept” or similar button. These challenges can include express waivers of privacy law protections as well as terms allowing the provider to share data indiscriminately or change terms unilaterally. Institutions may be able to override these pre-set terms through negotiation.

The Condition of Education

This website has the key indicators of the condition of education in the United States. These indicators summarize important developments and trends using the latest statistics and are updated as data become available. A Congressionally mandated annual report on these indicators is provided to the White House and Congress each year.
In addition, this website has Spotlights on issues of current policy interest. These Spotlights take a more in-depth look at the issues through text, graphics and short videos.

Education Powered by Compassion

What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?
~Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Welcome to the Charter for Compassion International page for Partners in the Education sector.  Here’s what you will find on this page:
  • What role does Education play in supporting the global movement for compassion?
  • How does an Education Organization or Institution become a Partner of the Charter for Compassion International?
  • What groups or organizations are already Partners in the Education sector?

What role does Education play in supporting the global movement for compassion?

Cultivating Compassion in the Classroom
Cultivating compassion in educational settings, and creating the kind of culture where it is a norm of student and staff behavior, may seem at first a noble ideal: a nice-to-have, something to be undertaken only when all other priorities are met. Yet we now have the evidence to show that a school’s ability to foster real learning, indeed to fulfill its fundamental purpose, depends on its ability to do just that.
More and more schools and educational organizations/groups are acting on this evidence and creating compassion-filled learning environments. Students and adults alike thrive when their social and emotional needs are met, when they feel a sense of belonging, when they feel their voices are welcomed and heard. Choosing to uphold the principles of compassion is central to a school’s ability to create a caring and inclusive culture and climate, to nurture a strong moral identity among those who walk through its doors, and to invite deep participation and learning.

Education

Acquiring knowledge and skills needed in the modern economy and society is necessary for the improvement and growth of the region. Unfortunately, the existing education system does not adequately meet these needs and the gap between the requirements of working in the current labour market and the skills individuals possess grows bigger every day. The gap between skills needed and skills possessed is even bigger for vulnerable groups, such as refugees and displaced persons, Roma, unemployed, minority groups, people living with HIV, at-risk youth, disabled person, etc, further isolating already marginalized groups.
The aim of IAN Telecentar is, therefore, to develop competencies required for active participation in the knowledge economy, finding a new/better job, and adjusting to the needs of the labour market, through:
  • promotion of lifelong learning as a development tool for all citizens
  • stimulation of social inclusion of marginalised groups in the lifelong learning process
  • searching for the best teaching and learning practices worldwide
  • adoption of the highest standards of the knowledge society
  • development and implementation of the programme according to labour market demands
Many people from vulnerable groups lack proper access to education, further excluding them from productive engagement in society. Without transferable skills needed in a digital age, they often find themselves under- or unemployed. IAN Telecentar seeks to diminish this inequality by providing individuals access to a range of courses.

Do you know how to invest to your Children future

UOB Malaysia was developing a new campaign to drive the Investment Banking business unit further. This campaign aims to increase investments for unit trust products as well as insurance products.
One of the insights we received from Client was that people needed to be educated about investments to reduce their fear of risks. Another insight revealed that the general public needs a motivator to invest. People need a strong reason to put away some money, or to endure delayed gratification.
Research shows people start investing when they approach the age of 30. Consumers from this age group have more disposable incomes and begin to plan for their future. This also happens to be the time where they begin to build a full nest, and need to provide for the children’s education needs. Hence, Client identified education as the main theme of the campaign.
Here in Malaysia, tertiary education continues to be a major expense for adolescents. The urban society shares a view that private colleges and foreign universities are better than the local, governmental ones. The exorbitant fees are seen as a necessity rather than luxury, and many parents do save up for this purpose.
Using this insight, our message strategy prompted us to ask Malaysian public this question – Are you ready for your children’s education? The pay-off is simple. If you’re not, UOB will be there to help you to be. Which led us to create one of the most thought-provoking campaigns for Malaysian parents.
Are you ready for your children’s future?
Do you know how to invest for your children’s future?
Have you planned for your child’s education?
These are some of the provocative headlines we used, written on a chalkboard with different version of kids, dressing up as adults. There were 4 main visuals – a doctor, a baker, a violinist and finally, a businessman. The visually arresting artworks forced people to stop and think of what their children could potentially become – with their financial help, of course. And how easily these dreams could be dashed, if the parents did not take vital steps to save and invest.

Open Educational Resources

I spend a lot of time in the air, literally and figuratively. My work supporting school districts takes me across the country on a regular basis, meeting with leaders who are interested in bringing Project Based Learning to their school or district. Although our first conversations relate to their vision for making an instructional shift, the conversation quickly turns to the all-important “when and how?” questions. What are the first steps? Who should be trained and when? How should they decide?
On my 3rd flight across the United States in the last eight days, the farm fields on the ground far below inspire me. The planning, hard work, reliable tools, and perseverance a good farmer has to have to bring the crop to harvest is a good analogy to the work leaders in districts need to do to ensure a good harvest of well-educated students....

LIFE INSURANCE CONTINUING EDUCATION CLASSES FOR ALL INSURANCE AGENTS

The Life Insurance continuing education classes offered online are streamlined and well devised to ensure that all insurance agents meet all the insurance CE requirements as set by the state to obtain or maintain their current licensing status. Life Insurance is the most profitable insurance product to many insurance companies and of course it is one of the most difficult products to sell owing to it long term care feature as well slightly high premiums that go into its policy. Definitely the insurance agents dealing with this product get better brokerage or commission in selling this product owing to its intricate complexities and high cost of premiums.

It is but imperative that insurance professionals dealing with this product have competent knowledge and skill in delivering persuasive and appealing sales pitch to sell Life insurance policies to people in the state. Life insurance continuing education classes are being conducted by majority of states either online or through classroom sessions to impart thorough knowledge on the rules, features, business plans, marketability and laws governing life insurance policies. This would definitely up skill the insurance professionals to answer any related queries by the general public without having to fumble for information.
It is mandatory that all licensed insurance agents, underwriters and brokers must complete a few courses in Insurance CE on an ongoing basis as the procedures, rules, principles, terms and conditions governing insurance policies tend to change periodically from location to location over a period of time. One has to be well aware of the necessary changes made and sell the insurance products as per the guidelines provided in the insurance continuing education classes. Nowadays insurance CE classes are provided online and as well as in classroom sessions. Alternatively you can also purchase insurance continuing education credits online if you prefer to work that way.

Proof That State-Mandated Financial Education Programs Work

There has been a long dispute over whether or not state-mandated financial education programs in high schools actually help improve financial literacy and overall financial health in adulthood. However, new research has emerged that provides consistent evidence that these programs are effective.
According to a report by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), financial education is defined as, “A process of lifelong knowledge and skills development required to achieve financial literacy, mitigate financial risks, protect assets and ensure ongoing effective management of one’s savings, credit, debt, housing, and other resources to maximize financial well-being of individuals and society.” Recently, two new studies were released which prove that proactive financial education is key to a more financially literate America.
FINRA Investor Education Foundation Funded Study
A FINRA Investor Education Foundation funded study, State Financial Education Mandates: It’s All in the Implementation, conducted by Dr. Carly Urban of Montana State University and researchers from the Federal Reserve Board and the Center for Financial Security (CFS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, looked at three states: Georgia, Idaho, and Texas. These states previously had not mandated financial education in high school, but changed financial education mandates after the year 2000. CFS affiliates analyzed the credit scores of young adults starting at age 18 until they reached the age of 22 using the Equifax Risk Score that ranges from 280-850. The findings from those state mandates prove that carefully implementing a rigorous financial education program in high school can improve credit scores and lower the probability of delinquency for young adults.
